Adding to our already juicy lineup this year, we’re very excited to welcome: American indie rock band Yo La Tengo, experimentalist, pop and folk band TAPE (SE), the powerful and mesmerizingly beautiful, El Rojo Adios (SE), psychedelic and tempestuous artist, Carmen Villain (NO), Moon King (CA) with their harmonious and raw electric sound, and finally, Jakob Juhkam Bänd (EE) fusing electronic and progressive rock on keyboard and piano. From our Icelandic picks, please help us give a warm welcome to Ólafur Arnalds, one of the most bright and young composers with electronica and minimalist influence, dark psychedelic rockers Sólstafir, Prins Póló alongside his royal herd, the experimental and electronic duo Legend, RetRoBot whose style is designed to get the crowd dancing, glorified, retro-type band The Vintage Caravan and expressive pop artist Borko. We’ll also get to see Kontinuum, with its unorthodox version of atmospheric metal, teen electronica trio Samaris, technical death metal ensemble Ophidian I, Himnalaya with their indie, ethnic and ambient textures, death and atmospheric metal band Angist, free-flowing duo Low Roar and Nolo is bringing their mystical, yet beauteous, 80’s synthesizers. Known for their to-the-edge stage presence, UMTBS will also be performing, along with electronic hip-hop artist Lord Pusswhip and renowned Reykjavik-based Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Finally, we’re pleased to welcome Blood Feud, performing their thrash metal material and Magnoose, giving us a solid set of pumping beats. Kraftwerk, who will close Iceland Airwaves, have added an additional show on Monday November November 4 in Harpa. Kraftwerk will perform from their groundbreaking catalogue with full 3-D visuals. Ticket sales start at noon today on midi.is. Kraftwerk started their visionary journey into the future more than 40 years ago. These forerunners in electronic music, and self-described “music-workers and operators” have influenced every genre imaginable. Please note that Kraftwerk will be performing at Iceland Airwaves as well and that show is included in the Iceland Airwaves ticket price, but there is a limited amount of tickets available. Only Iceland Airwaves wristband holders have the chance to get into the show. Tickets will be handed out to wristband holders on a “first come, first served” basis on Friday, November 1 at 16.00 at Harpa.

Ticket sales start at noon GMT, Monday May 6 on midi.is, however Iceland Airwaves ticket holders will have a chance to buy presale tickets from noon GMT, Friday, May 3. At Iceland Airwaves HQ the little festival workers are hard at work preparing this year's edition and now we're ready to announce the next 20 bands slated to play Iceland Airwaves 2013! Our international guests will include R&B electro duo AlunaGeorge (UK), industrial electro diva Zola Jesus (US), Robert Forster from the legendary Go-Betweens (AU), Mariam The Believer with her mix of minimal blues, pop and rock with Persian influences (SE), synthesizer laced indie pop trio On An On (US), Synthpop outfit DIANA (CA) and Stealing Sheep with their noisily drenched voodoo-pop (UK). From the pool of Icelandic talent we bring you Mammút's post punk, Pedro Pilatus' garage-tinged house, Muck's hardcore punk, the new punk-rockers on the scene Grísalappalísa, the winning bands from the Icelandic Music Experiments competition Vök, In The Company Of Men and Aragrúi. Last but not least we're happy to announce a new Yatra Arts label night with Reptilicus, Rúnar Magnússon, Jónas Sen, Þóranna Dögg Björnsdóttir/Trouble, Björk Viggósdóttir/Lala Alaska and AMFJ. Kraftwerk recently presented their Catalogue 12345678 across eight nights at London’s Tate Modern, drawing unreserved admiration from the world’s media in the process. These breathtaking 3-D shows were universally lauded, none more so than in the UK press. Free Iceland Airwaves Show at the Kennedy Center!

We are very proud to announce a free music showcase at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC on February 24. Featuring three of the brightest new talents in the Icelandic music scene, the showcase will include delicate electronic songstress Soley, Afropop/indie septet Retro Stefson and electro-pop unit FM Belfast. The showcase will be part of the month-long Nordic Cool program at the Kennedy Center, highlighting the diverse cultures of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Before embarking on a solo career, Soley already toured the world as part of respected Icelandic bands Seabear and Sin Fang. The bespectacled multi-instrumentalist’s latest solo work, 2011’s full-length We Sink, made tastemaker outlet My Old Kentucky Blog say “Soley’s lyrics are spoke-sung with such moist sweetness; butter should just nestle into the corners” while the lyrics themselves are “marked by the shadowy drama of an Ingmar Bergman epic.” Armed with superior pop hooks and Afro-beat elements, Retro Stefson’s self-titled 2012 album yielded two #1 singles in Iceland last year. The group’s seven-person line-up includes dual key/synth players as well as percussion and drums, turning their live shows into relentless dance parties. FM Belfast is not just a band; it is a community. Making melodic and beat-centric electro-pop, the group’s live shows include multiple percussionists, a synth arsenal and multiple vocalist bliss. Iceland Airwaves goes to Paris!

Iceland Airwaves will be giving the French a little taste of Iceland and its music at Air d’Islande, an Icelandic cultural festival in Paris. Air d’Islande takes place January 31 and February 1 at le Point Ephémère and showcases Icelandic and French music. The line-up: 31.01 : High-voltage punk/electro duo GHOSTIGITAL, featuring ex-Sugarcube and now cultural boss at the city of Reykjavík, Einar Örn Benediktsson and Mad-Genius Curver aka Birgir Örn Thoroddsen. These electrified gentlemen will be accompanied by newcomers EPIC RAIN, and french eccentric, MEIN SOHN WILLIAM. 01.02: ÓLÖF ARNALDS performing together with Skúli Sverrisson, with material from a brand new album. Also performing, MICHAEL WOOKEY who has worked with the multi-talented Valgeir Sigurðsson and his album is illustrated by Icelandic artist Gabríela Friðriksdóttir.
