The tenacious NYC band was founded by Michael Gira in 1982 and over 15 years they explored and pillaged the aural landscape. From harsh mechanical proto-industrial rock, to sprawling shifts of texture and perspective, to gentle acoustic-based songs, Swans has some serious music cred. Gira called it quits after a gratifying yet relentless 15 years, disbanding Swans. In 2010, Swans reset and re-activated, continuing their roaring legacy. On par with Eyjafjallajökull, Iceland Airwaves is preparing for the musical explosion that is Swans.
