After her breathtaking debut performance at last year’s Iceland Airwaves festival, Ásta was chosen by the IA board as the festival’s Best New Artist, and therefore becoming the first recipient of The Airwaves Plus Fund.
Emerging into the Icelandic music scene in 2019 with her debut album Sykurbað, Ásta has established herself as one of Iceland’s most prominent singer-songwriters. With her folk inspired music being described as „extraordinarily beautiful and scary at the same time with dark and twisted, poetic lyrics” she has gone on to be awarded Album of the Year at the 2020 Icelandic Music Awards.
Ásta is a classically trained violist, has performed as a soloist with Iceland Symphony Orchestra and holds a BA-degree in viola performance from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
