If there’s a band in Iceland that manages to combine catchy pop melodies with radical concepts of community and collaboration, then surely that would be Supersport!. Supersport!’s conception was an unexpected one, happening during a rare down time in the members’ musical lives in late 2019. The lively songwriting partnership of singer/guitarist Bjarni Daníel and bassist/singer Þóra Birgit, furthered by Hugi Kjartansson’s and Dagur Reykdal’s inputs, resulted in an EP being recorded within the first three months of the band’s existence – however, due to the covid pandemic, they found themselves spending even more energy on writing new music in early 2020. When the band’s debut release, “Dog Run EP”, finally came out in July last year, they were already heading back to the studio to work on their follow up – a full length record, produced by Árni Árnason of The Vaccines. At this year’s Iceland Airwaves, Supersport! will emerge as a fully formed pop project, ready to challenge the way in which we think about pop music – using sonic experimentation within the boundaries of the traditional rock band formation to bring you carefully structured pop songs, like you might never have witnessed before
