For the 20th time, Iceland’s only annual eruption, Iceland Airwaves, takes place this November 7-10. Reykjavík’s acclaimed music festival has long been regarded as a great destination to discover your next favourite act.
So far over 120 bands from 20 countries have been announced for 2018. Today the list grows further still, coming to a colossal 221 acts – the biggest Airwaves ever – from 26 countries. On the global stage Reykjavik might be a small city, but as a music capital it stands tall, and Icelanders are hands-down world champions when it comes to hospitality and good times. Airwaves turns mini-Reykjavik into one mighty long weekend of musical celebration and discovery.
The next wave of acts takes in both some of the hottest new talent from around the world alongside the return of some Airwaves favourites from near and afar.
New additions to the line-up include beloved Airwaves alumnus, Ásgeir, who will be performing his new album (set for release in early 2019) in its entirety for the very first time. He’ll be playing two very special, intimate shows at Fríkirkjan, the beautiful church right in the heart of downtown. Asgeir will also curate a series of once-in-a-lifetime day shows, where a selected number of Airwaves acts will record sessions cut live to vinyl at the famous Stúdíó Hljóðriti in Hafnarfjörður, and given away exclusively to a a few very lucky guests in attendance.
Ahead of her forthcoming album, Norway’s much loved pop songstress Aurora will return to Airwaves for with her stunning live show. Her last visit in 2015 saw her play to a packed to the rafters Art Museum, and in the time since she’s gone on to play dozens of shows and amass millions of ardent listeners around the world.
Other treats this November include special label nights by seminal UK labels, Bella Union and Moshi Moshi, both of whom also enjoy their 20th birthday this year, a special 6am yoga rave (the first of its kind to hit Iceland), and many more 20th anniversary surprises to be announced in the coming weeks.

It’s also with regret that due to personal reasons Fever Ray have cancelled their Airwaves performance, along with all of their other performances this Autumn. Read Karin’s statement here:
“Many of you know already that I’ve been struggling with general anxiety and panic attacks for a long time. For seven years I did not enter the stage, for five years I did not enter an airplane. It is a disorder that always lurks in the shadows that I have had to work carefully with and around, and that I never really know when it will strike or how much it will affect me. I am very thankful for the past seven months, that I have been able to tour and to meet you wonderful and amazing people. The last month though has been rough and my anxiety has started to escalate. I will now have to take a break from touring to take care of myself and restore my health. We are canceling the forthcoming shows this autumn. It is a difficult decision because I love my band and my crew, and I am so grateful for the love we have received from all of you while when doing this show. Hope to see you soon”.
