A festival organizer in demand of solo, and it is for Kham the trigger as much as the revelation. Twenty years of loyal service in a band (Lo’Jo), and Kham left the strings of his double bass lead the artistic direction of his career. From now on, it should follow the less codified path of music where freedom reigns. That of jazz and its improvisations dictated by the moment, that of purely instrumental compositions. Written and experienced on the stages, those from which Kham took advantage of an imposed confinement to refine and immortalize themselves in ‘Fantômes… Futurs’, his first solo album.
Kham Meslien has performed on all continents, from big scenes in megacities to Australian or American deserts. He also plays in the trio ‘Sweet Back’, and has collaborated, on stage or in the studio, with many international musicians: Robert Plant, Archie Shepp, Robert Wyatt… If Kham Meslien’s compositions evoke the great outdoors, it is because the musician borrows the narrative power of the double bass and the warmth of the catchy melodies. Accompanied by a looper and effects, a charango and percussions, he explores the sonorities of his instrument, superimposes loops and improvisations, evoking the first solo records of Henri Texier or the pianist Nils Frahm.
After a first album in 2022 entitled “Fantômes… Futurs” greatly acclaimed by the critics and highly acclaimed concerts (Cosmo Jazz 2023 with more than 500,000 views), Kham Meslien returns next July with an EP. unveiling the remixes of 4 tracks from his first opus by Paul Kendall (Mute Records, Alan Wilder de Recoil…), Chapelier Fou (Les Contes du Paris Perché, les Métamorphoses de Mr. Kalia…), Souleance (Fulgeance + Soulist, What The Funk, Peter Digital Orchestra…) (Dub Promozione, Totem, Femi Kuti…).
