Drinking Boys and Girls Choir (DBGC) is a three-piece punk band from Daegu, South Korea, featuring MJ on drums, Meena on bass, and Megan on guitar. Rooted in Daegu’s 90s-00s hardcore punk/indie-rock scene, they’ve vowed to stay and nurture their local music community rather than relocate to Seoul. After a hiatus due to MJ’s 2017 motorbike accident, they DIY-produced their debut album, Keep Drinking (2019), followed by standout performances at SXSW, Pentaport, and UK tours with Otoboke Beaver and Say Sue Me.
In 2021, their sophomore album, Marriage License, became a rallying cry for LGBTQ+ rights in conservative Daegu, earning acclaim from Spin, MTV, and KEXP. They performed at the 15th Daegu Queer Culture Festival, protected by 1,500 police against homophobic protests, advocating for equality and speaking out against exploitation like the Nth Room case.
In 2024, they joined Otoboke Beaver’s six-week North American tours, selling 20,000 tickets, and recorded a KEXP session. They followed with their own headline North American tour, releasing the single “History” and a live album. Known for their energetic sound and activism, DBGC has earned fans like Green Day, The Offspring, The Linda Linda’s and Henry Rollins, cementing their place as punk innovators and social justice advocates.
