Looking for a rewarding new experience? Want to play a part in Iceland’s funnest festival? You have come to the right place! 

Volunteering at Iceland Airwaves 2020 is a great way to discover a whole new side to music festivals. You make new friends, learn new skills, create memories for a lifetime and most of all have a great time doing it!

Volunteers form an integral part of a great festival atmosphere, and we welcome all prospective volunteers to join Iceland Airwaves for 2020.

To volunteer for Iceland Airwaves 2020 you need to:

  • Be 18 years old (or over) by the time you arrive to the festival site
  • Buy a volunteer deposit ticket*
  • Bring your photo ID (passport or driver’s licence)
  • Complete all the shifts allocated to you throughout the festival

How it works:

  • Step 1: Complete the online application form below.
  • Step 2: The volunteer team reviews your application. Please note we start reviewing applications from the beginning of August (and not before).  
  • Step 3: (If approved) we send you information regarding the volunteer deposit ticket and how to purchase it
  • Step 4: 2-4 weeks prior to the festival we will send out details of your shifts, the Volunteer Handbook and a detailed presentation regarding the Volunteer Program, roles and FAQs.
  • Step 6: Iceland Airwaves!

*The Volunteer Deposit Ticket Explained:

  • To secure your position you need to buy a Volunteer Deposit Ticket
  • When your application has been approved you will be sent a link to be able to buy the ticket
  • The deposit ticket is 14.900 ISK and will be fully refunded after the festival, provided that you have fully completed your shifts/obligations.

Please note that Iceland Airwaves does not provide accommodation, insurance, flights or ground transport for volunteers. These are the sole responsibility of the volunteers.

After August, you can drop an email to volunteers@icelandairwaves.is and we will get back to you once we start reviewing applications.

  • Applicant Information

  • This is so we are aware of your availability for some teams that might require physical strength/abilities, that will come up.
  • I am interested in applying to the following team/s:

    This team will be our friendly face of the volunteer welcoming festival goers to the site. This could be welcoming artists, general admissions, VIP section. Ect. If you have fun interacting with people, this is the place to be. More detailed description will come before your shift plan will be confirmed.
    This team will be helping with all things production. If you are action minded person looking for on hands experience. This is the team for you. We need physically strong people ready to get down with the projects as they go.
    This team will be make sure that our artist enjoy a well organised and stress festival. You will be helping the team make sure that the performances will run smoothly, logistically as well as making them get settled before their performances. More detailed description will come before your shift plan will be confirmed.
    This is the team you want to apply to if you are interested in starting a career in the festival business. Your are required to be available through the festival for the team you are working for. But not to worry. We will make sure that you get to dance a little and see the acts that you are interested in. The management team will get a goodie bag from us as a thank you and a recommendation letter. So if you are interested in management role, make sure to let us know what your strengths are, so we can set you up for a interview with the right team. Note that there are very limited positions and we get very (very) many applications. We will let you know if you are selected for a interview in mid-august.
    This is the team for those who are super organized and have some experience in managing people; for example, checking in volunteers at each venue, making sure that they have the information needed, making sure they know where to go, key contacts on volunteers at each venue ect.. More detailed description will come before your shift plan will be confirmed.
    The Pre-Festival Build-Up team will be setting up venues before the festival and taking them down after the festival. Being involved with this team, it may include off-office hours work. This means you are free to enjoy the festival! More detailed description will come before your shift plan will be confirmed.
    If you're an aspiring concert photographer, videographer, journalist, copywriter or social media wiz, this is the right team for you. You'll work closely with the marketing team on creating content before and during the festival.
